Gretchen Conley

Welcome to my first grade classroom! I’m so excited to be your child’s teacher this year! This is my 34th year and my last year of teaching young children, so this is a very special year for me.
I started my career in pre-k and it taught me so much about being a teacher. The program valued parents and the importance of play for children. Children learn so much from play! I try to incorporate play into my daily schedule.
This is a big year for the kids. They will learn a lot about the structure and science of reading. You can help by having them practice their reading assignments and also by reading and talking with them. This builds so much vocabulary and helps them on their own reading journey.
Kids at this age are also building their mathematical minds! We will do a lot of practice with math facts and math stories. I send a daily math practice page home on Mondays. They have all week to complete it but can do so as quickly as they like. This year I hope to do more math games with the kids!
I love science and nature and know that young children do too. We will do a lot of exploration this year. I’m excited that we have a new science textbook for our science curriculum! I also love history and social studies and have a nice collection of picture books for our daily story time.
I am married and have four adult children and one sweet little granddaughter.. I love nature, photography, travel, reading, and spending time with my family. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to a great year!
